The online workshop runs once every two weeks.
Eligibility Requirements
Why the Safer Driver Course?
- Risk Reduction: Young drivers (15-29) are disproportionately represented in casualties. This course builds awareness of safe behaviours to reduce crash risk.
- Resilience: Learn attitudes that lead to better resilience and low-risk driving choices as you progress to P-plates.
- Interactive: Sessions are designed to be engaging. Active participation is required.
- 20 Hours Credit: Successful completion counts as 20 of your required logbook hours.
Course Purpose
By the end of this workshop, you will understand:
- The high risk of crashing during the transition from supervised to independent driving.
- How to reduce crash risk by minimizing risk-taking and making low-risk decisions.
- Your vulnerabilities regarding hazard perception, speed selection, and distraction.
- The effect of peer influence and passenger behaviour on crash risks.
- Strategies to address driving at night, fatigue, and lifestyle pressures.
What to Expect
Part 1: Theory Workshop
A 2.5-hour online interactive workshop covering risk management and safe driving behaviours.
Part 2: Practical Drive
A practical driving session with an ACT Accredited Instructor. Note: This is 1-on-1 (just you and the instructor), unlike other providers.
Completion & Certificate
Complete Part 2 within 30 days of the workshop (usually arranged within a few days). Receive your Course Completion Certificate.
20 Logbook Hours
Take your certificate, ID, and logbook to Access Canberra to be credited with 20 driving hours.
